Unusual and with great interest, our last open field day for this spring, held at the trial fields of ET Helga - Svetla Stoyanova on May 28, passed. In addition to cereals and rapeseed, the focus of the day was catch crops and their benefit to the soil.
Our guest was Mr. Christian Dorninger, specialist in this field at Saatbau Linz. In a field that had experimental plots with different catch crops and mixtures in the fall, corn is now planted, soil samples, soil profile and various demonstrations of soil structure were made. Mr. Dorninger explained the goals and strategies for implementing catch crops, but like any activity in agriculture and in this segment, flexibility and a correct assessment of all circumstances are required - agro-meteorological situation, soil specificity, crop rotation on the farm, the specific conditions of the region and each field.
